The Mediterranean Sea is close by
The Mediterranean, blue and green, extends from the sandy beaches of the ‘Cote Sableuse’ to the north down to the rocky cliffs and coves known as the Cote Vermeille, towards the Spanish border, and is perfect for lazy days, discovery and swimming.
The coastal villages, some modern and some traditional are all different and offer many crafts and markets.
The jewel of the coast here is Collioure, with its tower appearing to be built in the sea, its bright coloured facades its craft shops and its royal castle.

For the Young, the best choice is Argelés-sur-Mer for its beaches, its lively crowds, its shops and its nightlife.
For a quieter life, you can explore this stunning coast by car, boat or on foot.
In the submarine nature reserve near Banyuls-sur-Mer you can explore the seabed with flippers and snorkel or with tanks.
On the breezier beaches there is kite surfing, very much in fashion just now, wind surfing, parachuteing, water skiing, (Barcarès) or you can hire sea kayaks, jet skis and boats.
Or you can quite simply fry on the beach and come home lobster coloured to Camping du Riuferrer!!! Try to avoid getting completely toasted!!
